Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan – May 22, 2025 – A significant step forward in environmental conservation was taken this week as the Center for Development of Science, Technology and Peatland Innovation (PPIIG) at the University of Palangka Raya (UPR) hosted a workshop to officially launch the Roadmap to Peatland Restoration. The three-day event, held from May 19-21, 2025, in Palangka Raya, marked a pivotal moment in establishing a collective framework for sustainable peatland management.

The workshop was a collaborative success, bringing together representatives from various government bodies, research institutions, regional organizations, and international partners. Attendees included Mr. Helbert Marpaung, Associate Expert, representing Deputy II for Human Development, Presidential Staff Office of the Republic of Indonesia, and Prof. Dr. Jatna Supriatna, Ph.D., Chairman of the Research Center for Climate Change (RCCC) at the University of Indonesia, who both offered crucial perspectives.

The Roadmap to Peatland Restoration is more than just a policy document; it represents the culmination of years of dedicated reflection, shared learning, and invaluable collaboration among diverse research-driven partnerships. It outlines a unified strategy to guide future restoration efforts, blending scientific rigor with on-the-ground practicality.

Dr. Hendrik Segah, Director of PPIIG UPR, emphasized the collaborative spirit behind the initiative. “We extend our deepest gratitude to our esteemed partners whose sustained efforts and commitment have been instrumental in bringing the roadmap concept to realization,” said Dr. Segah. “This collective framework would not be possible without the significant contributions and unwavering support from BRIN, ACIAR/CSIRO, BOSF, YTS, and CIFOR/ICRAF.”

The successful launch of the Roadmap reinforces the commitment of UPR and its partners to the ecological recovery and long-term sustainability of Indonesia’s vital peatland ecosystems.
