Tuanan, Central Kalimantan – November 28, 2025 – A specialized Workshop on Field Techniques and Molecular Analysis for Primate Research successfully concluded on November 26, 2025, significantly boosting the capacity of local and international researchers. The intensive training was held from November 22-26, 2025, at the renowned Tuanan Orangutan Research Station in Kapuas Regency, Central Kalimantan Province.

The workshop brought together a diverse group of participants, including experts and personnel from: Pusat Pengembangan IPTEK dan Inovasi Gambut (PPIIG) University of Palangka Raya (UPR), Central Kalimantan BKSDA (Natural Resources Conservation Agency), Kapuas-Kahayan KPHL (Forest Management Unit), National University (UNAS), National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and Rutgers University, USA.
The training focused on combining crucial field methodologies with cutting-edge molecular techniques.
Dr. Yohanes Gunawan, a researcher from PPIIG UPR, highlighted the practical value of the event. “This hands-on field training was exceptionally beneficial for our research activities,” he stated. “It provided critical, practical knowledge, especially regarding DNA extraction for sequencing using portable and practical equipment, which is vital for efficient research in remote settings.”
The successful implementation of this workshop underscores the collaborative effort to strengthen primate conservation and research, ultimately contributing to better management strategies for Central Kalimantan’s rich biodiversity.
