Palangka Raya, Indonesia (January 11, 2024) – Mr. Takuma Kobayashi, an undergraduate student from the Department of Environmental Engineering at Osaka Institute of Technology (OIT), Japan, recently completed a research project at the Center for Development of Science, Technology, and Peatland Innovation (PPIIG) UPR and the Forestry Department, Faculty of Agriculture UPR. The research, conducted from November 20, 2023, to January 11, 2024, focused on “Investigation of peatland fires in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia using satellites and drones.”
Under the supervision of Dr. Hendrik Segah, a lecturer and researcher from the Forestry Department, Faculty of Agriculture UPR, Mr. Kobayashi’s research aimed to gain valuable insights into the complex issue of peatland fires in Central Kalimantan. By utilizing advanced technologies such as satellite imagery and drone technology, the study sought to identify patterns, assess the extent of damage, and develop potential strategies for mitigating future fire occurrences.
This collaborative research effort between OIT and UPR highlights the importance of international cooperation in addressing environmental challenges. By sharing knowledge and expertise, both institutions contribute to sustainable development and environmental conservation.
