Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan, Indonesia (November 22, 2024) – A delegation of researchers from Rutgers University and Northwestern University in the United States, led by Prof. Erin Vogel, Ph.D., Assoc. Prof. Katherine Amato, Ph.D., and Mr. Justin Philbois, visited the Peat Forest Natural Laboratory of Palangka Raya University in Sebangau Ecosystem, Central Kalimantan.
The primary objective of this visit was to explore potential research and human resource development collaborations between the two universities, which will be formalized in a forthcoming Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Dr. Hendrik Segah, Director of the Center for Development of Science, Technology, and Peatland Innovation (PPIIG) at Palangka Raya University, emphasized the significance of this visit. He highlighted Rutgers University’s expertise in natural resource and wildlife conservation, particularly primate research, as well as its strong foundation in social anthropology. These areas of expertise are highly relevant to the challenges and opportunities facing Indonesia, especially in the Central Kalimantan region.
By fostering collaborations with renowned institutions like Rutgers and Northwestern University, Palangka Raya University aims to advance its research capabilities, strengthen its academic programs, and contribute to sustainable development in the region.
